Halls Head Primary School students made history on Tuesday this week, after being the first primary school to participate in the YOH Fest drama competition.
The state-wide drama festival was created 20 years ago as a way to promote health education among young people through drama, dance and visual art.
For two decades, the competition had only been open to WA’s high school students.
However, this year, for the first time in the festival’s history, primary school students were invited to participate.
Halls Head Primary School was the first school in the Peel region to join in, bringing a cast of 50 students aged between 8 and 12 years old to the event.
Halls Head Primary performing arts teacher Sian Dhu said it was an honour to mark this 20-year-milestone by being the first primary school to compete in the Peel region.
"YOH Fest was a much-loved part of my health and drama education when I was at High School, so being able to pass on the same memorable experience to my students is a dream come true," she said.
“Taking the title of the first ever Primary School to compete in the Peel region is just the icing on the cake.
“The dedication and teamwork shown by the young cast members is inspiring.”
