Mandurah police are investigating a physical assault at Halls Head College alleged to have happened on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mail has been told the incident involved a student being grabbed around the neck by a teacher and pushed to the floor.
The Department of Education’s professional standards and conduct executive director Eamon Ryan said the department was assessing the allegations.
Mr Ryan said the teacher was not at the school while the matter was under investigation.
“We understand that the matter has also been reported to WA police,” he said.
The allegations are in the hands of Mandurah detectives.
The teacher, a 48-year-old man from Meadow Springs, has been charged with common assault.
He will face Mandurah Magistrates Court on September 19.
