Mandurah Catholic College (MCC) students have continued to carve out a name for themselves in the water, picking up great results at the SunSmart WA School Surfing Titles last week.
After winning the Peel regional zone a week earlier, MCC continued on their wave of success in several different age groups.
April McPherson (year 11) and Ruby Allen (year nine) impressed mightily with a resounding win in the state senior girls category.
The duo were able to overcome the perennial powerhouse Margaret River Senior High School to claim the victory, the first time in MCC’s history they have bested the southerners.
Margaret River had not been beaten in the event for 15 years.
Ruby and April will now go on to represent MCC in the Australian School Titles in Sydney this December.
The pair was also runners up in the senior girls bodyboard event.
Henry Gibson (year 11) and Matt Hanks (year 10) dominated the senior boys bodyboarding division, claiming the State Title in enigmatic fashion.
The boys defeated Margaret River and Cape Naturaliste College to win the premier bodyboard event.
Junior girls Lisa Peraldini (year 9) and Ella Ginbey (year eight) finished fifth in both the surfing and bodyboard events.
Reserves Ella Golding (year nine) and Zali Cory (year eight) were on hand to support the team throughout the day.
MCC were narrowly defeated by Margaret River SHS for top spot in the overall school award, finishing second out of 60 schools.
