A Greenfields mum with a talent for turning everyday baking ingredients into edible masterpieces has taken top prize at the National Cake Decorators Association seminar over the weekend.
But it was no piece of cake for Patricia Nath, who spent weeks perfecting her novelty category entry.
Mrs Nath’s shipwreck cake, which includes paper-thin icing sails, impressed the judges.
“I carved the cake before working on the decoration,” Mrs Nath said.
“It took about two weeks.”
The win came from three cakes entered by the local woman who runs Divine Cakes and Cupcakes.
Mrs Nath’s next challenge will be at the Perth Royal Show, where she hopes to consolidate her latest win with another victory.
The Mandurah branch of the Cake Decorating Association of WA meets once a month at Nellie Regan Hall on Peel Street.
