A Halls Head man might be thousands of dollars out of pocket after a hit-and-run accident destroyed a brick wall and tore down his tree on Friday afternoon.
Bert de Jager said the out-of-control ute barreled into his property leaving piles of wreckage in its wake before the driver fled the scene.
Mr de Jager labelled the drive a “scumbag” for fleeing the scene.
WATCH:
He said the incident happened about 4.10pm on Friday afternoon.
“People come past here with prams and kids and there are kids coming home from school,” Mr de Jager said.
“He could’ve killed anybody.”
Mr de Jager said he was angry because the hit-and-run would leave him making his first ever insurance claim.
“I really want to catch this guy for leaving the scene, not even having the decency to stay there and exchange numbers and everything so I can do something about it,” he said.
“And now I’m going to be out of pocket.”
He said he reported the incident to police on Monday morning.
“I not going to hold my breath, but at least I’m going to try,” he said.
“I might even go around a few of the panel shops later, but I don’t know if he'd be stupid enough to take it straight; because he’s probably got it locked up in a garage somewhere.”
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
