The top four sides all picked up wins and the ladder remains on a knife’s edge after round 17 of the Peel Football and Netball League.
Heading into the round there were several scenarios that could have seen teams handed their finals position, but the only thing that became certain is Waroona will finish in fifth following their loss to Centrals.
The Demons now sit two games behind South Mandurah and will hit the road to play whoever finishes fourth in the first week of finals.
But in a round filled with massive team wins it was an individual performance from Falcon Brad Holmes that caught the eye.
The Souths’ sharp-shooter booted a stunning 11 goals in his side’s 68-point win over their cross-town rival Mustangs, the league’s highest goal-scoring performance this season.
He also holds second place on that table, having booted 10 against Centrals in round nine.
Holmes’ 11-goal haul lifts his tally on the season to 86, and helped keep South Mandurah’s hopes of finishing third alive.
The Falcons’ scenario to third spot is now simple. A win over Waroona and a Baldivis loss to Centrals would secure them a second chance.
But Baldivis will head into their clash with Centrals brimming with confidence after belting Halls Head to the tune of 87 points.
The Brumbies’ big win pegged back six per cent on the second placed Centrals, meaning they now need to win and make up just four per cent on the Blues to nab a home final.
Pinjarra would need to suffer a miraculous loss to the Mustangs if they are to be ousted from top spot, a result that looms especially unlikely given they thumped Rockingham by 65 points on the weekend.
