PFNL round 16: Top teams beginning to hit stride

Four of the league’s top five sides took out victories over the weekend as the competition heats up before the post-season.

Waroona kicked off the round with an emphatic showing against Mandurah.

The Demons started sluggishly, behind 13 points at quarter time, but made up for it when they put together a monstrous 50-point last quarter to take a 50-point win.

Waroona’s win comes off the back of two close losses to top five opposition, and keeps them in the mix to finish fourth and claim an unlikely home final.

To do that the Demons will need to leapfrog South Mandurah, who went down to Baldivis in a four-point thriller on Sunday.

The Falcons were the only top five team to suffer a loss in round 16, but the result could easily have been turned around if not for some wayward kicking in front of goal.

The loss saw them drop to fourth, while Baldivis kept their run of hot form alive to move into third.

A handsome win over Rockingham paved the way for Centrals to cling to second spot, but they will need to keep their momentum rolling if they are to remain there with the Brumbies knocking down the door for a home qualifying final.

Pinjarra shares an equal 12-4 record with Centrals, but holds a hefty percentage advantage which only got heftier with their 67-point win over Halls Head on Sunday.
