A dominant performance from start to finish saw Pinjarra storm to their fourth straight win with a 15.6 (96) to 3.11 (29) victory over Halls Head on Sunday afternoon.
Wet and windy conditions failed to bother the top-shelf Tigers, who continued their run of form just a week after claiming first place on the ladder.
Pinjarra landed the first blow against the young Lightning outfit, booting four goals to zip in the first term as they cantered out to a sizable lead.
Halls Head were able to hit the scoreboard in the second term with their first two majors of the game thanks to Robert Falkstrom, but it didn’t ease the pain as Pinjarra booted a further five to lead by 37 points at the half time break.
Rain began to pour in the third quarter but did little to cool the tempers of Phil Walshaw and Owen McLarty, who were shown yellow cards for a skirmish midway through the period.
By three-quarter-time Pinjarra was out to a 57-point lead.
Falkstrom booted the Lightning’s third and final goal of the match in the fourth but did little to stem the Tigers’ flow of goals, as they notched three more to finish 67 points in front.
Wet weather could not stop multiple Tigers finishing with bags of goals.
Rohan Kerr followed his five-goal haul last week with four against the Lightning, while Jeffrey Carter and Brennan Gillam scored three apiece.
The win keeps the Tigers in top spot just two weeks out of the finals.
Coach Troy Vidovich said his side’s pre-season goal was to finish in the top two, and that they would need to keep their foot on the pedal to ensure a strong end to the regular season.
“We’re pretty happy with where we’re at as a team at this point but we need to make sure we don’t ease up at all,” he said.
“Winning form is obviously good form but we have a gameplan and structures to carry out so we need to make sure that happens.
“From here we just need to keep our momentum rolling.”
Pinjarra will play Rockingham next week, while Halls Head will take on Baldivis on the road.
