The WA Football Commission is shining the spotlight on engaging at-risk youth in the Mandurah area through their Night Fields football and netball programs in terms three and four.
The initiative aims to provide a free sporting experience for youth in the region, offering games and clinics on Friday nights.
The program was held in Mandurah, Kwinana and Pinjarra earlier this year, with the success of its first round prompting another run.
WAFC community engagement officer Paul Mugambwa said both the footy and netball programs were aimed at helping youth in the area develop life skills outside of the sports.
“Football plays a key role in driving positive community outcomes off the field,” he said.
“This program helps kids develop relationships and build resilience.
“We are excited by the number of youth that participate in the program and more-so by the number of older youth that we have now developed as casual staff.”
Night Fields will run in Mandurah on a weekly Friday night basis starting August 18, with the last session to wrap up the term on September 22.
The first three sessions will be held at Hall Park on Mandurah’s western foreshore, with the remaining held at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
Boys and girls aged 8-18 are invited to attend, with each night kicking off at 5.30pm.
Term four programs will also be run in Pinjarra, Waroona and Kwinana, with dates yet to be confirmed.
