There’s not too many rappers in the country quite like Kwame. Taking cues from the best in East Coast and Chicago hip hop, he has already made a huge mark on the national circuit with his extremely smooth and melodic style.
2016 was a remarkable year for Kwame: From topping the triple j Unearthed Hip Hop chart, making his national radio debut on Edge 96.1 with K-Sera and The Dirty Dozen and, buggest of all, being pulled on stage by A$AP Ferg, this 19-year-old artist and producer from Sydney's constant font for hip hop talent, the inner west, is blowing up out of the Australian hip hop club scene.
Known to his folks as Rich Amevor, Kwame has been creating a buzz in Sydney’s underground party scene by taking over some of Sydney’s best venues.
From his debut single I Get It, which reached no.1 on the Australian triple j Unearthed Hip Hop Chart to his dark and energized freestyle on Bluffin’, Kwame demonstrates progress and diversity in his sound.
During his high-school years he layed down the groundwork for his career by creating and recording music while working with his mentor I Digress.
Inspired by Kanye West, Chance The Rapper and Goldlink, Kwame has enlisted a roll- call of collaborators including Sydney’s Korky Buchek and Raj Mahal.
Released in March, his debut EP Lesson Learned is a showcase of his ability to comfortably move between genres and incorporate new influences into his music.
“I aim to show how diverse I am in terms of sound,” he said.
“In life we shouldn’t set ourselves to achieve just one thing, we are capable of so many things and we should never limit ourselves.”
Kwame heads to Rollercoaster on August 4, with support from the Ugly DJ Co. Tickets are available now through Ticketbooth or on the door.
