Uber is encouraging more driver-partners from Mandurah to sign-up to the app to boost economic opportunities for locals and improve reliability for riders this summer.
From July 27 to August 27, Uber will have a booth at Mandurah Forum for those who want to find about what it’s like to drive on the app.
This came as Uber representatives prepared to run up to 12 in-depth driver sign-up sessions at the Mandurah Bowls Club in August to help new drivers kick-start the accreditation process.
WA’s Uber general manager Tom White said it was the right time to boost driver numbers as the weather warmed up and more people started heading out to bars and beaches.
“Historically we’ve thought of Mandurah as part of the broader Perth market, but we recognise it deserves greater focus given the size of the population and its distance from the city,” he said.
“We’re looking for more drivers in Mandurah to sign-up to use the app to improve reliability, which we know will increase demand from riders over time.
“The average wait time for riders in Mandurah is more than seven minutes, compared to just four in Perth, and we’re keen to close that gap for the benefit of local riders.”
With some of the state’s highest unemployment rates, Uber was confident ride sharing could offer Mandurah locals an opportunity to get back on their feet.
Mr White said there were 80 drivers from Mandurah using the app, but many drove to Perth and back each day to get trips.
Peel Thunderbirds partnership
To mark the latest push, Uber said it will partner with the Peel Thunderbirds on a rider referral program that would help the club invest in local football.
New riders who sign up and take a trip using the promo code ‘PEELTHUNDERBIRDS’ before December 31, 2017, will receive $20 off their first ride.
The Thunderbirds will also get a $5 donation for every new rider that signs up and takes a trip.
