The success of Mandurah woman Tracey Walley’s first Coats for the Homeless collection has prompted her to schedule a second round of the drive to help the needy keep warm this winter.
Ms Walley was overwhelmed by the support the community showed when she held her first collection of coats last month, saying the success prompted her to organise a second go at it.
“It was wonderful. So many people and so many families showed up and pitched in with their spare coats – I was just rapt with how it went,” she said.
“My phone hasn’t stopped ringing, and I can’t thank the kindness of this community enough. It was amazing.”
Ms Walley organised the first drive after seeing the idea floating around on social media.
“I saw the idea come up in Mandurah, and I just thought, ‘Oh, that would be a great idea here’,” she said.
“There’s always some people who really struggle through this time of the year, so I just thought it would be a good way to help out.”
The next collection will be held at the rotunda on the foreshore at Mandurah Terrace, on Saturday, July 29 from 9am to 2pm.
Ms Walley has asked for donations of no more than two to three coats per person, clean and preferable in good condition. She has also asked for coat hangers to be provided.
