A team of Year 9 Science students from Mandurah Catholic College have won the national “scienceIQ” competition, pitting their knowledge against teams from throughout Australia.
Daniel Teo, Miguel Ajero, Jackson Constantine and Titch Toulmin – under the team name of T.A.C.T – finished first while two other MCC teams finished in the top five.
Year 9 Science Extension students competed in teams of four earlier this term. The scienceIQ quizzes test student knowledge, skills and understandings in most areas of Science, including astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, biotechnology and science investigations.
Students were assessed on not only their accuracy but also their speed. ScienceIQ encourages students to bond and work together as a team while having fun learning science.
The other MCC teams who finished strongly were: Stilinski (fourth place) – Pheobe Taylor (captain), Lucy Usher-Clarke, Monique DeSouza and Mia Shepherd; and the Little Einsteins (fifth place) – Abbey Harvey (captain), Alison Marsiske, Indi McClements and Ella Peck.
