Mandurah has received money to support for The King of the Cut stand-up paddle board downwind race thanks to the latest round of a regional events funding scheme.
Mandurah MP David Templeman said regional events were important because they delivered many social, cultural and economic benefits to the community, while showcasing the region to visitors.
“The Regional Events Scheme supports a range of smaller or developing sporting, arts, cultural and culinary events that encourage visitation, add vibrancy and provide valuable media exposure for the region,” he said.
Mr Templeman thanked tourism minister Paul Papalia and regional development minister Alannah MacTiernan for supporting the development of regional events across Western Australia.
“Thanks to the 2017-18 round of the Regional Events Scheme, 62 events across Western Australia will receive funding of between $5000 and $50,000,” Mr Templeman said.
The King of the Cut is the largest stand up paddle board downwind race in Australia.
The event is held over two days in the first weekend of December and comprises two events.
The King of the Cut is a 24 kilometre paddle race along the Mandurah coastline, from the Dawesville Cut to Secret Harbour and the Half Cut is a 10km race using the first half of the course.
The event also features a cool down paddle and a barbecue to raise funds for Mandurah Sea Rescue.
