The man behind a number of successful Mandurah pubs and restaurants is leading a bold plan to open a cutting edge small bar at the site of the what used to be the Heritage Restaurant on Mandurah Terrace.
Jiah Minifie, who managed the Brighton Hotel and spent eight years as an owner of Catch-22, has submitted an liquor licensing application to set up Bar Therapy at the foot of the new Mandurah Bridge.
Bar Therapy would be a “small scale bar with integrity and a whimsical sense of humour” that would make locals proud, the application said.
“With a palpable sense of history, the building known as ‘Tuckey House’ lends itself to the creation of a wonderful small bar, preserving the building, accenting its features and turning it into a functional, efficient, and sustainable business operation,” according to the applicant.
Bar Therapy would preserve the grandeur and heritage of the building and create a “casual and intimate” setting for 120 people.
The application said it would be “perfect for romantic dates”.
According to the application, Bar Therapy would employ eight people including a management team of two and specialise in “interactive” cocktails and gourmet bar food.
The Heritage Restaurant opened at the site in 2016 but closed earlier this year.
