The preservation of a unique plant species has been assisted through planting efforts by Greening WA and the Shire of Murray.
Shire president Maree Reid attended a site in the Shire of Murray recently to take part in preservation efforts for the Grevillea genus.
With the assistance of Men of the Trees Peel, 20 saplings were grown from cuttings after the species rediscovery over three years ago.
Greening WA representative Bayden Smith encountered the species in a Shire reserve while completing revegetation work with Shire of Murray representatives.
“Prior to the sighting, the species was last recorded over 20 years ago,” Ms Reid said.
The Shire of Murray will continue to monitor the plants to help ensure the species protection into the future.
The Grevillea is a genus of over 350 species of evergreen flowering plants in the Protea family.
Grevillea species are endemic to Australia but some occur in Papua New Guinea and islands to the north.
