A 70-year-old Lesmurdie man has been charged with several offences following a firearm incident in Meelon on Saturday afternoon in which he threatened two young motorcycle riders with a rifle.
At about 3pm, two men were riding off road motorcycles on bush tracks near Darling Scarp Road when they became lost.
They stopped in a clearing of land to find their bearings when a vehicle approached them and stopped alongside them.
Police allege the driver, a 70-year-old man, pointed a rifle at one of riders, striking his helmet with the end of the rifle, and threatened to shoot them.
The riders, two 21-year-olds from Meadow Springs and West Pinjarra, immediately rode off from the man.
As a result of the investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at the man’s house in Lesmurdie on Wednesday and seized his firearm.
The man has been charged with being armed to cause fear, act or omission likely to endanger life, common assault.
He will appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on June 20.
