The state’s best young surfing talent will hit the water in Mandurah for round two of the WA Junior Surfing Titles this weekend.
A host of up and comers are expected to enjoy what looms as strong swell at Mandurah’s breaks, including a string of youngsters from the Peel region set to benefit from some home surf advantage.
Macklin Flynn, Phoenix Wilson, Maverick Wilson, April McPherson, Toby Jenkins and Connor Gaiger are just some of the many Peel-based surfers that will take to the water to compete.
“Mandurah has some really red hot talent coming through so there will be a lot of local boys and girls surfing in the round,” Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said.
“The swell looks like it’s going to allow us to surf at Avalon Point so it should be a really entertaining event with our best young surfers.”
Competitors will range from as far north as Carnarvon to as far south as Albany.
Macklin Flynn and Phoenix Wilson will be looking to back up their strong starts to the state titles after surfing well in the under 12 micro grommets division at Margaret River in round one.
The duo finished second and third respectively, just behind Yallingup’s Otis North.
The swell at Avalon Point is forecast to peak at around three metres on Saturday, with a high of 2.3 metres on Sunday.
Southerly winds are expected to provide strong surfing conditions across the two days.
“At the moment it looks like we’ll get some good weather for it which should make for a really interesting round,” Majeks said.
