Peel Thunder’s Leroy Jetta helped the West Australian Football League make history when they took down the Victorian Football League at North Port Oval on Saturday.
The former Essendon Bomber booted two goals as the WAFL beat the VFL on Victorian soil for the first time in football history with a 10.11 (71) to 20.14 (134) win.
Western Australia applied immense pressure around the ground and dominated all phases from back to forward to power their way to a ground-breaking victory.
The Black Swans trailed by two points at quarter time but utilised a strong breeze to boot six goals to Victoria’s two in the second term.
Their third quarter was prolific as they stretched their half-time lead from 22 points to 45 points at the final change.
Jetta was just a small part of a prolific WA forward line which made the most of its opportunities to dominate the Vics’ defenders.
Ben Saunders was the game’s best on ground with six goals as the South Fremantle forward wreaked havoc on the Victorian backline.
Jetta was opportunistic and as well as bagging his own two created a goal for Subiaco’s Clancy Wheeler in the third term after applying a mountain of pressure on Victoria’s defenders.
West Perth’s Shane Nelson led the disposal collectors for WA with 25 touches, while South Fremantle’s Hayden Schloithe was also a standout.
Claremont’s Jye Bolton collected 24 disposals and a goal, while South Fremantle star Tim Kelly also racked up 24 touches.
