Drivers speeding along Halls Head’s Leisure Way and Egret Point have prompted the City of Mandurah to put traffic mitigation measures in place.
The speeding issue was first raised by Leisure Way residents in March this year, who submitted a petition with 50 signatures requesting that traffic calming measures be implemented along the street.
After undertaking a traffic study in the area, the City of Mandurah found that despite traffic volumes being acceptable most cars were driving over the 50km/hour speed limit.
However, they acknowledged traffic volume would continue to grow in the near future as developments in Osprey Waters go up.
“It is acknowledged that the road has an operating speed slightly higher than the posted speed limit,” the City of Mandurah said.
“The outcome is that the road needs to be monitored and it is recognised that at a point in the future, intervention will be required.”
Meanwhile, the City of Mandurah will request Main Roads WA to paint lines along the street and will install speed radar signage in the area.
They said they would also approach the local police team to patrol the area and enforce traffic rules.
The City will be undertaking another traffic count and reassess the street in six months time.
