Halls Head’s Living Waters primary school to close

Living Waters Lutheran College, which also runs primary and secondary campuses in Warnbro, notified parents on Monday that they intended to close the school.

The Halls Head campus accommodates students from kindergarten to year 6.

Living Waters Lutheran College chairwoman Robyn Phillips said the college decided to sell its Halls Head campus to the Anglican Schools Commission.

“The decision is in the best interest of students at Halls Head,” she said.

“The key factors driving the decision are current student numbers, projected numbers and the similar Christian values of the Lutheran and Anglican schools.”

Ms Phillips said the Halls Head campus would remain fully operational as Living Waters Lutheran College for the remainder of 2017.

Frederick Irwin Anglican School principal Kerry Robertson said the school’s Meadow Springs campus was at capacity and a new campus in Halls Head would cater for a spike in demand for student places, especially from families living south of Mandurah.

“We have a waiting list at Frederick Irwin, particularly in the primary years and this opportunity to expand means we can also cater for families who live in the southern corridor of Mandurah and Dawesville,” Ms Robertson said.

“We will conduct a refurbishment of the school before it reopens in 2018 so that we can offer the same facilities and services available to primary school students at the Meadow Springs campus.”

Ms Robertson said students who attend the new campus in 2018 would have secondary school places at Meadow Springs.

“Our school, as part of the Anglican Schools Commission, offers a low-fee independent Christian education for students and aims to be inclusive and accessible to as many people as possible,” she said.

“We look forward to welcoming a new group of students to our Halls Head campus in 2018 as we continue our aim to provide a high-quality, inclusive Anglican education.”
