Centrals remain on top as ladder tightens up | round seven wrap-up

Centrals kept the Tigers, a side with serious flag credentials this season, goalless for the first half and to just one major for the match as they kicked their way to a 6.11 (47) to 1.10 (16) victory.

The Peel Football Netball League ladder has tightened up in recent weeks, but Centrals remain a game clear on top boasting a 6-1 record from their seven games.

Pinjarra on the other hand have lost three of their past four after starting the season on fire, and sit in third two games behind Centrals.

Between them in second is the South Mandurah Falcons, who have stormed off the canvas with five straight wins after a dismal fortnight kick started their campaign.

The Falcons have played complete team footy in their turnaround, launching them to the higher end of the ladder with some impressive wins over fellow top-four sides like Pinjarra and then Waroona on the weekend.

The Demons have been inconsistent this season, but at their best have conquered some of the top sides.

It was a pleasing weekend for those in red and white shirts, as the Mandurah Mustangs claimed their second win of the season with a victory over the struggling Halls Head.

The Mustangs opened the game well booting their way to a 16-point advantage at quarter time.

But the Lightning, who have improved noticeably in the season’s first six weeks, hit back with a second quarter flurry to take a two-goal lead into half time.

Some even play from the competition’s bottom two sides saw them all squared up at the final break, but it was Mandurah who gave the final push and was able to come away with a 10.12 (72) to 9.10 (64) win.

In the remaining game, Baldivis was able to win their fourth game out of the last five and move to a record even with Pinjarra and Waroona with a victory over Rockingham.

The Brumbies got the jump out of the blocks early and were able to hold off a fast-finishing Rockingham in the final quarter.
