Baldivis, Waroona knock off top two in round six | wrap-up

In a stark reminder of just how close the competition in the Peel Football and Netball League can be, Centrals lost their first game of the year as the reigning premiers Baldivis powered to the victory.

The Brumbies kept the then-undefeated Centrals goalless in the first half as they stormed to a seven-goal advantage at the long break.

Ash McGrath booted Centrals’ first six minutes into the third quarter but they still trailed by a whopping 51 points at that stage.

Hayden Lynn, Luke Robinson and Brendan Tingey were all named in Baldivis’ best as the Brumbies finished with a 54-point victory.

Waroona also impressed mightily in round six, romping to their fourth win of the year with a win over the second-placed Pinjarra.

Wayward kicking hurt the Tigers who had six less scoring shots than the Demons and lost by a six-goal margin.

Waroona kept Pinjarra to just two goals for the entire match, with Mitchell Dawson, Andrew Leroy and Clay Smith all named among the best players.

Rockingham returned to the winners’ list on the weekend, claiming their third victory of the season with a powerful performance over the Mustangs.

The Rams went into the match on a three-game losing skid, but a best-on-ground performance from Ross Elliot medalist Rocky Collins and 10 contributors on the score card led them to a 63-point win over Mandurah.

Luke Dowling led the way for Rockingham with four goals, followed by Jack Allum, Kyle Donaldson and Tyler Sutton who all pitched in with three.

In the final game of the round, an efficient first quarter gave South Mandurah the breathing space they needed to fend off a spirited Halls Head outfit in the rain on Sunday.

The game was cut short when an injury to Chae Lally caused a lengthy ambulance delay, with South Mandurah taking a 27-point win.
