Two men caught with more than 100 undersized crabs were handed fines in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Harith and Hary Tran did not appear in court, but provided endorsed guilty pleas to the December 10, 2016 offence which happened in Coodanup.
The court heard Fisheries officers searched the pair’s vehicle just after 6pm and uncovered 107 crabs, 104 of which were undersized.
The smallest of the crabs was just 77.2mm.
The minimum legal size for local crabs is 127mm.
As well as being in possession of a totally protected fish, the pair had also exceeded their bag limit by 87 crabs.
Fisheries officers seized the Trans’ catch and returned the crabs to the water.
Both men were fined $5200 plus court costs of $188.
Also ordered to pay a fine was Craig Alfred Mason, who was caught with 26 undersized crabs at Island Point reserve on February 4.
Mason told Fisheries officers he had no gauge, but had planned to size his catch when he got back to shore.
He was fined $1300 plus costs.
