The Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre redevelopment will be officially completed and opened to the public this Saturday, April 29.
A free community open day from 9am until 3pm will be held to celebrate the completion of the second stage of the upgrades, which cost $42 million.
The day will include 25 per cent off all three and six-month gym memberships along with all-day activities and come-and-try classes.
The Mandurah Magic will be holding an Aussie Hoops program to introduce children to basketball, while netball, futsal, volleyball and badminton will all be played on the sparkling new showcourts.
Plenty of swimmers will hit the brand new pools with the Mandurah, Peel Aquatic and Mandurah Masters swim clubs all putting on lessons.
Gymnastics, roller skating and dance and groove activities will also be on, along with creche for the little ones.
Fitness classes will run from 9am to 1pm.
City of Mandurah Mayor Marina Vergone said she was thrilled the project would finally be opened to the public.
“This is one of the biggest community infrastructure projects that Mandurah has ever seen, and we are thrilled to be officially opening it ahead of our anticipated completion date of mid-2017,” Mayor Vergone said.
“This completes the final stage of the long-awaited redevelopment to transform the centre into a modern, state-of-the-art recreational facility that meets the needs of our growing community.
“We’re so proud of what’s been achieved and thank the community for their patience and support throughout this exciting project.”
Stage two of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre project included two new multi-purpose sports courts including events entry, foyer, administration, office, kiosk and first aid facilities, a new gymnasium and group fitness facilities.
Patrons will be greeted by new main entry, foyer, reception, café, retail and meeting facilities, a new crèche and renovated toilet and change room facilities.
Renovated squash courts were part of the project, along with renovated building facades and new administration facilities for staff.
