Following community consultation, the Novara foreshore reserve in Falcon is about to undergo an extensive upgrade, aimed at improving the area’s play equipment and environmental management.
A major feature of the reserve upgrade is the new adventure playground, which will incorporate ‘off the shelf’ equipment alongside custom-built nature play features.
These include a six metre high climbing structure, accessible swings, and, in a first for WA, a Miram which is a skate-style piece of equipment for older children and teenagers.
Two fitness nodes will also be installed.
These areas will include various fitness equipment items including leg press, butterfly press, chin-ups, plyometric box jumps, trapeze rings and pull up bar.
The new equipment will offer a range of physical, sensory and creative experiences for all ages and abilities.
Extensive community feedback has informed the final design which will include space for informal recreation, paths, seating and interpretive signage.
A focus will also be on environmental improvements such as management of storm water and revegetation of the foreshore to increase wildlife habitat, reduce erosion, and create a buffer from wind and waves.
The upgrades are designed to meet the growing community needs whilst respecting the environmental values of this estuary-side location.
The works being undertaken will add to the existing recreational facilities that include a boat ramp, jetties and a low impact canoe launch point.
The redevelopment project is a staged development that will be completed by 2020.
