Wearable Art 2017 sneak peek | Photos

With only two months left until Mandurah’s awaited wearable extravaganza hits town, designers and models took to Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (MPAC) on Saturday for the 2017 Wearable Art competition judgement day. 

This year’s judging day saw world-class judges Paul O’Connor, Megan Salmon and Leisa Landre-Ord take over the judging panel to decide this year’s showcase participants.

Throughout his 30-year artistic career, multi-skilled creative Paul O’Connor has worked as an artist, editor, visual merchandiser, stylist, curator and creative director in both the public and private sectors.

Mr O’Connor is currently looking after Elle Macpherson’s international press and VIP relations and Andrea Horwood-Bux’s company WelleCo.

Fremantle-based Australian fashion designer Megan Salmon also brought her unique energy to this year’s judging panel.

Ms Salmon, who started her creative career as a painter, has had her work acquired by several state and private collections, including the Art Gallery of Western Australia and Janet Holmes a Court’s collection. 

Finally, WA Academy of Performing Arts associate head of school production and design Leisa Landre-Ord brought her extensive experience in stage and production management to the competition.

Some of this year’s designs were inspired in coral bleaching and Pacific island tribes among others.

his year’s Wearable Art showcase will be held at MPAC on June 10 and 11. 

The show will present this year’s spectacular wearable creations surrounded by musical and theatre performances.
