Coolup residents came together on Sunday afternoon to have a yarn with their neighbours and give the newly installed barbecues at at Don Sparks Reserve a good workout.
The event was part of the Shire of Murray’s BBQ in the Hood initiative, which encourages the region’s communities to get together over a barbecue, have chat and help prevent crime in the area.
On Sunday, 60 residents took to Don Sparks Reserve with salads, nibbles and meat to listen to an acoustic Sunday session while discussing the latest news in the area.
The Shire of Murray also supplied soft drinks, play equipment for Coolup’s younger punters, and information on how to prevent crime in the area.
Attendees had the chance to learn about the rural neighbourhood watch and take an information pack home with emergency numbers.
A Coolup Progress Association spokesperson said the event was a success bringing people together to discuss issues surrounding the neighbourhood.
“It absolutely brought people together and gave everyone a reason to meet and discuss things,” she said.
“We had really really good results.”
