Rod Tregenza, Gary Williams, Scott Faulkner and Aaron Jeffery became the newest members of the Peel Football Netball League’s hall of fame at the 2017 season launch on Monday night.
The quartet had their contributions honoured by the league as they were presented with a certificate and cemented into local footy history.
Williams, who has been involved in umpiring in the league for 29 years, said it was a complete shock to hear his name called out.
“When they started reading out some of the accolades I actually thought it was going to be the bloke sitting next to me,” he said.
“But the more they read out the more I thought ‘hang on, that sounds like me’.
“It’s an absolute honour to be named in the league’s hall of fame.”
Williams becomes the third umpire inducted into the hall, an initiative that began in 2012.
He, along with Tregenza, Faulkner and Jeffery, join fellow hall of fame names like Stephen Green, Clive Atwell, Aaron Fitzpatrick, Glyn Wood and Troy Wilson.
Along with the hall of fame quartet, a volunteer from each club was also recognised for the contributions to the PFNL.
Maddie Peters (Baldivis), Geoff Coombs (Centrals), Alyce Rolston (Halls Head), Geoff Trindall (Mandurah), Josh Farmer (Pinjarra), Belischka Holland (Rockingham), Greg Barnard (South Mandurah) and Ken Landwehr (Waroona) were all presented with awards.
The Peel Football Netball League season kicks off this weekend, with a colts game at Waroona on Friday night and the remaining games all to be played on Saturday.
