Pinjarra Uniting Church one of WA’s greenest

After their long-term commitment to a sustainable future, the parish received two Five Leaf Eco-Awards on a special service on Sunday morning.

Among their environmental achievements are using solar panels, putting energy efficiency measures in place, recycling, taking compost on board, saving paper, and assisting their congregation in taking over environmental practices at home.

Pinjarra’s Uniting Church is the 10^th church in Western Australia to achieve a Five Leaf Eco-Award  and the 28^th in Australia.

The Five Leaf Eco-Awards are a religious environmental change initiative that aims to assist, inspire and reward churches and religious organisations across Australia to take over environmental action.

In order to win one of the certificates, churches have to complete several environmental tasks from a list.

Five Leaf Eco-Awards founder Jessica Morthorpe congratulated the congregation on their achievements and encouraged other churches to follow suit.

“The program is designed to encourage churches to embrace the important role they are called to play within the environmental movement,” she said.

“Many churches have already done enough to earn Five Leaf Eco-Awards, they just don’t realise it.”
