Sunday at Tech Park in Bentley saw the second last round of the Ring Criterium Series raced.
With a number of series titles up for grabs, some riders were racing for more than the race win.
Peel Districts Cyling Club’s Ashton Sime had already secured the under 13 season title with six wins from six starts.
Going for seven from seven, Sime’s normal tactics of attacking early, breaking the bunch apart and riding away to victory failed him on the day.
He attacked hard on the second lap and distanced a few riders, but three riders stuck with him.
The four were together on the final lap, when Sime attacked again and took the win, with Isabella Commons second and Jordan Williams third.
A-grade women saw Sabine Bird attack on the second lap, joined by Kylie Anticich on the next lap.
With series leader Melissa Robinson and second placed Emily Mascaro watching each other and not willing to chase, Bird and Anticich rode away.
For the second time, the breakaway lapped the field.
In the end Bird was too strong and took the win, Anticich second and Sarah Duffield third.
The final race was men’s A-grade.
The pace was high, the attacks numerous and short lived.
In the end it was a bunch sprint won by Stephen Hall, who also secured the season win.
Tim Sellar was second and Darcy Pirotta third
Next Sunday sees the State Criterium Championships held at Tech Park, while the Peel District Cycling Club will hold a skills morning at the Motorplex on the same day.
