The Western Australian electoral commission has reminded electors that early voting in Saturday’s state election closes at 6pm, Friday, March 10.
For the first time no specific reason is required to vote early, with the option available to all electors.
“With the removal of the requirement to give a reason and a record number of enrolled electors in 2017, early voting across the state is already breaking records,” Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake said.
“As of now, over 155,000 early votes have been recorded, already almost double the total number of early votes at the last state election. Mandurah District leads the way, with more than 7000 votes and almost a quarter of electors having voted early.”
The Western Australian Electoral Commission expects to take in excess of 180,000 early votes in person and 120,000 postal votes, around 20 per cent of total electors.
Mr Kerslake reminded electors who have applied for a postal vote to make sure their completed ballot papers are posted by election day on Saturday, March 11.
Alternatively, completed postal votes (including their declaration envelope) can be handed in at any polling place.
Voting is compulsory for all enrolled electors.
