National and international skaters BMX riders and performers have descended on Pinjarra for a week of extreme sports demonstrations and participation.
Created by Sydney-based “skate park takeover” collective Branch Nebula, Snake Sessions is a new tour which aims to hit as many small-town skate parks around the country as they can, and Pinjarra is one of the first stops outside of New South Wales.
“Australia’s filled with skate parks, there’s one in almost every town,” co-creator Lee Wilson said.
“I came from a country town as well, and I know that not much goes on, compared to cities, where you can walk down the street most nights and something will be happening.
“So what we’re trying to do is bring that culture – that street culture which really pushes the idea of being free and creative – to as many places as possible.”
The sessions were launched with members of sponsors Alcoa, Bendigo Bank Pinjarra and Shire of Murray, as well as Bindjareb elders.
Snake Sessions runs all week at Pinjarra Skate Park, until Friday March 3.
