North Dandalup Gullotti family never expected a family trip to the movies could lead to a paid holiday to WA’s Kimberley region.
When 7-year-old Rylan went to watch Red Dog True Blue at Mandurah’s Reading Cinemas with his brother and grandmother, he entered into the Independent Cinemas Australia (ICA) competition to win a paid holiday for four in the Kimberley.
They didn’t think much of it, but a few weeks later his family received an unexpected call from ICA.
Rylan’s entry form was selected among participants from across the country for the prize.
Ms Gullotti said it was a complete surprise, since Rylan, who participated in the competition with the help of his grandmother, hadn’t told his parents.
However, she said the family was delighted with the prospect of visiting the region for the first time.
“Stuff like this doesn’t happen to us,” Ms Gullotti said.
The trip, valued at $13,500 dollars, includes return flights from Perth to Darwin, return flights from Darwin to Kanunurra, accommodation in Darwin and Home Valley Station and return airport transfers.
Reading Cinemas manager Alicia Waugh congratulated the family and said she was delighted with the win.
“What are the chances of someone from Mandurah winning a big competition like this?” she said.
“It is awesome.”
Ms Gullotti said the dates were yet to be confirmed.
