The Ravenswood Learning Centre will flood with red balloons in support of the Yarloop Volunteer Fire Brigade from 10 am on February 28 for National Red Balloon Day.
National Red Balloon Day was created by Victorian woman Jody Hardiman, who wanted to honour and thank firefighters nation-wide.
On Feburary 28, Australians can purchase thank you balloons all across the country and tie them to their letterboxes to thank fireys for their tireless efforts, and they can also participate in community events and fundraisers to show their support.
The Ravenswood Learning Centre has been taking part in the nation-wide event for the last four years, raising funds for the Yarloop volunteer fire brigade and giving the local community the opportunity to thank firefighters for their help.
“We are a family-owned business,” Ravenswood Learning Centre director Sheryl Jones said.
“My mum grew up in Yarloop, and I spent part of my childhood in Yarloop too.
“We have strong family ties down there, so we thought it was a good idea especially after what they went through last year.”
On February 28, crew members from the fire brigade will come down to Ravenswood from Yarloop to discuss fire safety, show local children their fire truck and let them try on their jackets and helmets.
The presentations will be followed by a morning tea, a raffle and free activities for local children.
All the profits raised during the event through donations and merchandising will go towards the Yarloop Volunteer Fire Brigade.
“National Red Balloon Day it’s always one of our biggest days of the year, and the children all love it,” Ms Jones said.
“It’s all very exciting.”
