Hopes for a boat show happening in the region haven’t sunk yet, despite Mandurah’s signature boating event moving to Elizabeth Quay this year.
City of Mandurah mayor Marina Vergone said there are plans for a boat show to go ahead in the future but in a different format to the old event.
“What that looks like is yet to be finalised by event organisers, however what we do know is that the boat show provides a great opportunity to showcase Mandurah,” she said.
Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) chief Donna Cocking said despite looking like a disadvantage for the region, moving the show to Perth would allow other events on the same dates such as the Waroona Show to get wider attention.
“It may seem like a disadvantage due to a relocation to Elizabeth Quay but these events are sometimes more enhanced by clustering around other activities, and the decision to do this would be more in line with maximising outcomes for the sponsors and participants,” she said.
“There is no doubt that the unique waterways of the Peel region are a major drawcard and we will always have fantastic opportunities that come and go, commensurate with our fabulous weather and the diverse range of additional tours, attractions and events we are fortunate to have dispersed across the calendar year.”
Ms Cocking celebrated the plans to hold a new boating event in Mandurah in the future, which she believed would provide another focus for local businesses, tourists and boating and fishing enthusiasts.
The Club Marine Perth International Boat Show will be held in Perth from September 22 to September 25, 2017.
