Mystery surrounds the recent closure of the Ravenswood Caravan Park to temporary tourists visiting the region, allowing only permanent tenants to stay at the facility.
Ravenswood caravan park owners said the closure is due to future renovations to expand the facility, which would take up the space where the campsite currently stands.
However, the Shire of Murray gave a different version of the matter in a reply to a resident’s question on their Facebook page.
“The Shire received the following statement from Ravenswood Pub regarding the closure:
‘Ravenswood Tourist Caravan Park has been closed to tourists due to poor visitor behaviour such as illegal fishing and crabbing offences and antisocial behaviour impacting on the local environment and residents in the Shire of Murray/Ravenswood area. Permanent tenants will continue to be allowed to live at the caravan park, no consideration has been given at this time if or when the Ravenswood Caravan Park will re-open to tourists [sic].’”
The owners of the caravan park denied any relation between the closure and illegal fishing offences and anti-social behaviour on site.
