I’ve been invited to a number of parties this weekend.
They all relate to Trump’s inauguration in some way – from beer-swilling redneck celebrations to hipster commiserations – for some reason.
Well, there is a reason, in a way.
The U.S is still the most powerful country in the world (for the time being anyway), and Trump is a harbinger of the “new politics”, which, arguably, looks a lot like neo-con racism.
We, as Australians, should be trying our darndest to avoid that.
A black leader was chastised for his comments on Martin Luther King Day this week, and some stories, like the now-infamous Melbourne burkha billboard – the usual, unfortunate pre-Australia day racism – show how close we might be getting to it.
Some betting agencies are putting short odds on Trump being impeached within six months.
Who knows, maybe we can avoid some pain.
At least you won’t have to read me complain about him.
