Calvary House, a facility for youth aged 15-24 who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, had their back yard brightened up on Wednesday when the team at Bunnings Mandurah visited to help install new vegetable garden beds.
The raised beds, soil and plants were donated to Calvary House as part of Bunnings’ community grants.
Calvary House manager Lisa Dunne said the garden beds would help instill positive life skills in their clients.
“We have quite an extensive living skills program, so the young people get involved every day in different house chores and routines,” Ms Dunne said.
“We’re going to incorporate the gardening in to the living skills program, so the young person that’s on for the bins and the outdoor areas, they will also take on the role of watering and weeding the gardens.”
She said further down the track they will use the produce in the kitchen.
“It’s about helping them to move out of crisis into independent living,” Ms Dunne said.
