Monday marked a big milestone for David Lloyd, a long-time Mandurah resident who on January 16 2017 reached his 100th year.
“The first time we came to Mandurah was in 1937,” Mr Lloyd said.
“And we moved here in 1966.”
Mr Lloyd worked as a carpenter and builder in the region for several years.
Mr Lloyd said he’d seen Mandurah change a lot in his time.
“In my opinion it’s getting overcrowded. They’ve taken a lot of the nature away. It’s still a lovely place, but it’s changed a lot,” he said.
He shared some tips for staying alive until 100 with the Mail: he said to love your work and love sport; have a supportive family; and “just don’t die”.
To celebrate Mr Lloyd enjoyed a lunch at Mandurah Quay with friends and family, and received letters from the Queen, Mandurah mayor Marina Vergone, MP Andrew Hastie, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, and Governor-General Peter Cosgrove.
Happy 100th birthday, David.
