Mandurah will welcome a new night out later this month, with Bunbury party crew Good Nights expanding and bringing their unique shows to local streets.
Good Nights Live at Barracks Lane will see musicians ply their trade in a relaxed setting on Barracks Lane on January 20, in conjunction with local space activation group Shape Mandurah.
Good Nights has hit its stride in Bunbury, with the events group selling out shows at various, left-of centre venues across the city over the last two years.
“I started it in August 2015. The concept was to give singer-songwriters a place where they could perform in front of an audience that's really engaged and listening to them,” Good Nights organiser Kelsie Miller said.
“The idea was that they would take place in different locations each time, and venues you wouldn’t usually hold musical performances.”
The idea paid off, with Good Nights booking out several shows in the last six months. Their appeal is wide, as well, with a BYO and family-friendly aesthetic working well in the shows’ favour.
“We've held them in backyards, in art galleries, in studios... all over the place, basically,” Ms Miller said.
“We really wanted to make sure we were holding the shows in unique environment that audiences would get a lot out of. It's designed as just a chilled-out, fun gig where there's a lot of attention and connection between audience and musician.”
The success of Good Nights locally has given Ms Miller and her team the confidence to expand the idea, and bring it to other cities like Mandurah.
“Last year, for me, was basically really about solidifying the whole thing in Bunbury,” she said.
“This year will be about getting out there and expanding, and bringing it to new communities.”
Ms Miller has had widespread support not just form punters, but form the local businesses who have taken part in the events.
“Local businesses have been really keen too get on board,” she said.
“We've been inundated with people who want to host them, which from our perspective is great, it shows we're doing something right. It's venues that don't normally host live music, so it's bringing something different to them.”
The first Good Nights show in Mandurah hits Barracks Lane on January 20.
The first show is sure to be a spectacular, with Good Nights favourite Tom Day, Latehorse and Mandurah’s own Danny Bau taking part.
