Greenfields Alzheimer’s and dementia centre Ella’s House celebrated Christmas surrounded by its members, family and friends at the Halls Head Bowling Club on Wednesday morning.
Ella’s House was created in September 2015 to cater for the growing demand for dementia facilities in the Mandurah-Peel region.
The centre acts as a home away from home for people living with dementia and their families, and delivers accredited dementia education and clinical advisory services to aged care and health professionals.
At the event, Alzheimer’s WA chief Rhonda Parker spoke about the centre’s achievements during their first year, and about the importance of creating a warm and family-like environment for people suffering from dementia and their families.
“At Ella’s House we create our house like grandma’s house, with all the cousins getting together,” Ms Parker said.
“I can’t even express how proud I am of the team and community members that have helped us build this community.”
Ms Parker also congratulated the centre’s Ella’s Fellas team, who won the Live Lighter Aged Care Games 2016.
Following the presentation of the winning team, the newly formed Teal Voice choir performed well-known Christmas songs to get attendees into the festive spirit.
