A police officer shot and killed a dog in Orelia on Friday night after the animal attacked him and his partner while they were trying to arrest a man.
The officers were sent to deal with a disturbance in Orelia Avenue, around 7pm and were trying to arrest a man when a dog ran from the house and attacked the officers.
One officer was bitten on the wrist and the other on the foot and forearm.
The officers used their pepper spray and Tasers on the animal but the dog continued to attack.
One officer then drew his gun and shot the dog, which died as a result.
Nine News posted a picture of the scene showing a sign on the front of the house with the words "Warning! Pitbull on duty."
The officers were treated in hospital for their wounds and a 25-year-old man has been charged with obstructing police.
