Mandurah’s junior athletes get helping hand

The 13-year-old is one of four local athletes to be handed a donation from the work-wear store, receiving $200 to cover her registration costs and a further $300 that will go towards the Mandurah Dragon Boat Club.

The prize comes after Hot Klobba ran a sponsorship competition on their Facebook page, with Amelia being named the winner along with Jordyn Ihms (bodyboarding), Jenna Hall (equestrian) and Clarissa Herbst (athletics) taking out runner-up prizes worth $150.

Amelia has been dragon boating for four years and is now in the selection process for the Australian team to compete in the world championships in Beijing next year.

The up and comer said the donation would go a long way to furthering her training.

“It’s very exciting and it’s going to help me out a lot,” she said.

“I’m hoping to race in the world championships and in the (2020) Olympics, and this money will make things easier for me.”

Hot Klobba owner Victor Tomlinson said the store was ecstatic to reward such worthy local athletes.

“We find that what goes around comes around, so we’re always looking to give back to the community and going through local sport is an effective way to do that,” he said.

“We’re happy these kids will keep playing sport locally.”
