Providing support to Aboriginal youth in the Mandurah community made sponsoring the Gnoonie Cup an easy decision for the Personnel Employed at Alcoa Charity Help (PEACH) organisation.
The cup, a football match held annually each October, began in 2008 after a group of young Aboriginal boys lost their lives while driving a stolen car.
Following the incident, several local agencies came together to create an event with the focus of promoting making positive and safe choices.
This year, PEACH sponsored the event by donating new uniforms and equipment to the players.
PEACH spokesperson Vicky McGennisken said the charity was thrilled to support the Gnoonie Cup.
“This is a great cause and the game really helps young people in the community come together,” she said.
“It was a pretty straight forward choice for us to get behind the event.”
This year’s cup drew the biggest crowd yet, with over 250 people watching the game at Bendigo Bank Stadium.
As a thanks for their support, Street Net presented PEACH with a framed jersey from the game.
