Mandurah’s primary schools shone on the rugby field last Friday, taking out both titles in the State League Legends Tackle Tournaments held in South Perth.
Despite temperatures soaring above 36 degrees, the youngsters put in plenty of effort with South Halls Head Primary School taking out a win in the year 5-6 girls and Greenfields Primary School claiming the year 5-6 boys title.
Four schools from the Peel contingent took to the field in the carnival, including the two winners and a pair of Meadow Springs Primary School teams.
It was an all-Mandurah final in the girls division, with Meadow Springs falling just short of South Halls Head.
A line break by South Halls Head player Aroha Tarrant and offload to a sprinting Grace O’Brien for a golden point try was all that separated the two sides.
South Halls Head coach Andrew Tarrant said he was beyond proud to bring the title home to Mandurah.
“The whole team have been training very hard and deserved their result,” he said.
“All the staff worked really hard. Special mention to Paul Gallash for his tireless work and to the parents for their support and making sure kids were at training.”
The win is the first state-level trophy for the school.
