The Waterous Trail section of the Munda Biddi is back on track thanks to a group of volunteers from Alcoa’s Willowdale Mine and Wagerup Refinery.
A group of employees cleared burnt logs, leaves and debris from a section of the trail that was severely impacted in the Yarloop-Waroona fire early this year.
The Munda Biddi Trail, which means path through the forest in Noongar, is a world-class nature based off-road cycling trail.
It is one of few places left in the world where a 1000km trail is available in an undeveloped natural corridor.
The trail extends from Mundaring in the north to Albany in the south with the Waterous section nearby to Alcoa’s Willowdale Mine.
Alcoa Mining president Garret Dixon joined the leadership group from Willowdale Mine to help restore a section of the track impacted by fire.
“We’ve been a proud supporter of the Munda Biddi Trail since 2000; and they really need a hand at the moment,” he said.
“The Willowdale team rolled up their sleeves and helped to clear debris and restore a section of the trail.”
Chair of the Munda Biddi Trail Foundation Peter Versluis said: “The Foundation has very limited resources with which to maintain a very long Trail”.
“Alcoa's support is a major factor in sustaining the asset, particularly in the Peel region.
“We are extremely grateful for its ongoing and practical contribution.”
