A Falcon woman whose house was gutted by fire last year was convicted of failing to comply with a notice after requests for her property to be demolished were denied.
The City of Mandurah launched legal action over the Mistral Street property which was deemed uninhabitable following the October 2015 blaze.
The City had requested the home be demolished by the owner, Yvonne Carter, in two notices served under the Health Act.
Ms Carter was given 90 days to remove the debris, but her partner, Jamie Allen, told the Mail earlier this year the couple could not afford the $20,000 demolition costs.
In June this year, the home’s owner was advised the City would commence prosecution.
Ms Carter, who did not attend the court date on Friday, was fined $364 for failing to comply with a City notice.
She was also ordered to pay court costs of $1338.50.
City of Mandurah chief Mark Newman said earlier this year the city preferred not to turn to legal action, but burnt-out houses posed a public safety risk.
“The City will only proceed with legal action against a property owner as a last resort when we believe they have had ample opportunity to demolish the property, and when we are not satisfied the appropriate steps have been taken,” he said.
