Dwellingup’s Returned and Services League (R&SL) building and garden recently received a small facelift by Alcoa’s committed volunteers.
Leaders from Alcoa’s Huntly Mine dropped by the centre and helped its members relocate large numbers of timber and bricks from their shed in preparation for a white ant treatment, and did some work in the garden.
Dwellingup R&SL secretary Leigh Whitley said the work by the Alcoa volunteers was greatly appreciated by the club’s members.
“The help from the Alcoa volunteers has been great, they really rolled up their sleeves and got a lot done,” he said.
“We’ve been wanting to get all the timber and bricks shifted and the team from Alcoa moved them in no time.”
Huntly Mine manager and volunteer Brett Hodges said the project was a chance for Alcoa’s employees to get into the community and give a hand.
“Dwellingup is a neighbouring community to both our Huntly and Willowdale operations, therefore I couldn’t think of a more suitable place for us to offer our service,” he said.
The Dwellingup R&SL hall, located in Dwellingup’s main street, was built 105 years ago in Marrinup, and transported to Dwellingup in 1947.
Prior to becoming the group’s hall, the building was a school residence and classroom.
