Randy Miegel will lead the Mandurah Magic women’s side as head coach again after inking a new contract for the 2017 season.
It will be Miegel’s fourth year spearheading the team, and the respected player mentor said he was excited to make it official.
“I was always keen to go again and it’s nice to be able to say it’s all finalised now,” he said.
“I found out this week and now I can start focusing more on next season and getting things underway once the off-season is wrapped up.”
Miegel led the Magic women to a playoff berth last season after a rampaging back half to the year saw them finish in fifth.
But the coach will be looking to go a step further this season after being knocked out in the first round.
“I think not finishing in the top four hurt us a bit so that will probably be in the back of ours minds next season,” he said.
“We still had a great season but there are ways we can improve and we’ll begin looking into that soon.”
The Magic will return to team-based training activities in early November, going through to Christmas and then resuming in the new year.
“We’ll let everyone freshen up a bit and then get back into our routine,” Miegel said.
“Each season brings a few changes to the makeup of the team so we’ll start looking at some players who can help us improve.
“Having said that we have a really good base of young talent which is exciting for the coming season.”
Miegel was also thrilled to be back on Mandurah's home court in 2017, after spending the previous year playing home games in Rockingham due to local court renovations.
“There’s a buzz around the whole club from junior players right up to the SBL guys,” he said.
“It’ll be great to get back to home court and bring basketball back to the city again.”
The Mandurah Magic released a statement saying they were elated to welcome Miegel back to the line-up.
“Randy's return as Head Coach brings with it his expertise and understanding of elite level basketball, as well as a strong awareness and support for the emerging talent pathways and SBL opportunities that exist within the Mandurah Basketball Association,” the statement read.
“Randy is a well respected coach within both the SBL community and the Mandurah Basketball Association and we congratulate him on his reappointment.”
